bio

MIMI SALTZMAN WAS RAISED IN NEW YORK SURROUNDED BY VISUAL ART AND MOVED TO TAOS IN 1972. SHE GRADUATED FROM THE BOSTON MUSEUM SCHOOL OF TUFTS. SHE RECEIVED AN MFA FROM NYU IN 2001. MIMI DIVIDES HER TIME BETWEEN SAG HARBOR AND MANHATTAN: BOTH PLACES ARE ABUNDANT WITH ART, ARTISTS, AND FREEDOM OF EXPRESSION. Saltzman’s lush, abstract paintings are expressions of autobiographical subject matter.

In her recent show in Taos, the artist invited visitors to take free copies of “Be Here Now” by Baba Ram Dass published in 1971. Ram Dass spoke on the political, spiritual and communal movement. Vistors could climb ladders and draw on the “in between” wall.

Taos holds a spectrum of memories relating to the paintings. Along with this exhibition, Saltzman exhibited major works at the Harwood Museum.
